Brother

As a part of the Write Tribe Festival of Words which kickstarts on 1st September and will go on till September 7, I am writing about the 7 relations in my life, without even one of them my life would lose its meaning. These seven people are very dear to me and I hold them very close.

Brother -

He was gifted to me by parents when I was just four. I am sure when he was born I would have been delighted beyond limits and my happiness would have known no boundaries. I don’t remember it all now as I was all but four. He was and is the jewel of the family being not just the youngest kid but the youngest member of our huge joint family. He was loved, pampered and spoiled as kid but has always been well mannered, obedient and dutiful child.

I clearly remember our growing days how we behaved like we were a WWF Tag Team. Like how we would set up pranks and play them on other kids. The performances we gave at our community functions. We were not just brothers we were friends and we still are. He was more close to dad and me to mom (it’s just thoughts of your nascent minds, mum always says). To parents all their children are equal mum would rebut. We would dream and make towers of plastic and castles of clay. Like every siblings we have our differences and clashes, but that never was a reason to fight, rather we would reason each other right. In the safeness of the house and under the veil of our father and nurturing care of maa our intimacy grew. But as fate would have it, our father was taken away by the cruel gods at a very tender age. We were robbed off our childhood, in a day we turned adults. Overnight we had to be mature to walk the difficult path called life, all by ourselves and to tend to our mother.

Now I was a father to him, but he made it very easy for me, as he was still a friend. Now the silliness had vanished and so did the childish behavior of his. But this was the only thing out of my control, rest I had decided I would give it my all and cater to whatever he needs. I pledged to myself to give him all the things I did not get when was his age.

From here on he is my adopted son!!!

I am so glad I can talk to you
I am so happy that I have you,
you are in my heart,
we are one sole
just bodies apart

We are always a team,
We are brothers but friends,
I promise to fulfill all your dream

At times sad,
sea of worries sailing,
I had,
In dark with misguiding eyes,
I find,
No answers hailing,
Whatever I saw,
everything was fading
but, you were always there for me
you had my back,
and I was once again scaling

Even if we believed,
both of us were right,
That was never a reason
to start a fight,
we would rather reason each other right

with the knowledge that was to be
taught to you by me
now you have aged, and I’m contend
wisdom seems to be your very good friend

to catch you and to hold,
if you ever fall
I’ll take away all you pain
I’ll be there for you,
through the sun and rain

    1. thank you so much for such kind words Aditi...while living life in the fast lane these days we tend to neglect the people who silently support us and stand by us and have made us what we are today.

  5. How lucky and blessed you are to be so close to your brother. I have a sister and we have never been close. After my dad died we grew farther apart. We do not see each other, or speak. The rift between us is too great and most likely always will be. I have always felt more like an only child because there was 7 years between us.

  6. Applause to both of you. It is becoming increasingly rarer to have siblings being so close though I too am blessed by a brother and a sister with whom I share a very warm relationship.

    1. i agree Suresh that the camaraderie between the siblings is a rare feet...but then we hardly spend time together and that keeps off the bond from getting stronger by the day...and i wish your bond and warmth remains all through :)
